Marvin Wurtzel is the principal consultant for
Marvin M. Wurtzel & Associates, Inc. He has worked with leading
companies in Financial Services, Telecom, Pharmaceuticals, Aerospace and
the government. Marvin is also a frequent speaker at conferences on
Business Process Management. He has had papers published in the area of
Six Sigma and Business Process Management
Prior to establishing his firm, he was Vice
President, Business Process Improvement at Fidelity Investments
where he facilitated numerous process improvement projects leading
to significant reduction in cost and cycle time, while attaining
significant quality and customer satisfaction improvement. He introduced
Six Sigma tools to the organization. He participated on the team that
implemented methodologies that brought one division to Software
Engineering Institute, Capability Maturity Model Level 2 (SEI CMM Level
2).
Previously, he was employed at Eaton
Corporation where he developed and implemented Total Quality Management.
He established a Balanced Scorecard (set of metrics) that was used to
measure the progress of the business. He led the development Software
Process Improvement program (using SEI CMM as the model). Worked with
manufacturing management to implement self directed work teams. Initiated
supplier certification and partnering, co-author of an award winning
Supplier Handbook.
Mr. Wurtzel has been a member of the faculty of the National Graduate School
where he has taught Financial Systems, Six Sigma, and
Organizational Performance Assessment as part of their Masters
degree program in Quality Systems Management. He developed and taught
courses "Total Quality Management" and "Supplier
Partnering" courses in the Northeastern University.
Two of these courses have been presented via satellite broadcast on
Network Northeastern and National
Technical University.
He is a Fellow in the American Society for
Quality, as well as a Certified Quality Engineer and Certified
Reliability Engineer. He has been a Malcolm Baldrige National Quality
Award Examiner in 1992, 1994 and 1995, as well as Massachusetts Quality Award
Examiner in 1996-7. He has
presented a paper on Insuring the
Quality of the Infrastructure at the Boscon 2002 Conference in April
and at the NEQC Conference in October 2002. He presented Six Sigma for the Rest of Us at
Boscon 2003 and had it published
in the July 2003 issue of Quality
Digest. Marvin has also spoken and taught at Business Process Management Conference Series since 2003.
He holds Bachelor of
Electrical Engineering from the City College of New York and a Master of
Science in Engineering Management from Northeastern University.
